Private ambulance in the Castelli Romani

‹ English home

In an emergency always call 112. The Misericordia ambulance is for planned transport and does not replace the public emergency service.

When people look for a private ambulance in the Castelli Romani, this is usually what they need: transport that is not urgent but comes with assistance, for someone who cannot travel sitting in a car or who needs someone beside them during the journey. This is exactly the service the Misericordia di Ariccia has provided for over thirty years, with its own ambulances and trained volunteer rescuers.

When you need an ambulance

  • Hospital discharges to home or to a nursing home, on a stretcher
  • Visits, tests and treatment for people who cannot sit up or who need assistance
  • Transfers between healthcare facilities, including long-distance ones
  • Returning home from hospitals in Rome or other cities
  • Transport for dialysis and recurring treatment (see dialysis transport)

If a stretcher is not needed, a car or a vehicle with a wheelchair lift is often enough: we will tell you on the phone, so you can choose the most comfortable and economical option. All our vehicles are described on the Patient & disability transport page.

Who is on board

A crew of trained rescuers (level I and II courses, BLSD, i.e. basic life support and defibrillation) and, depending on needs, a nurse or doctor. Every ambulance carries a defibrillator (AED).

Where we go

We start from Ariccia and serve the whole of the Castelli Romani: Albano Laziale, Genzano di Roma, Marino, Castel Gandolfo, Velletri, Lanuvio, Nemi, Rocca di Papa, Lariano and the surrounding area. For discharges and transfers we reach hospitals in Rome and throughout Italy.

How much does it cost?

We are a volunteer organisation: we do not charge commercial rates like a private company. We ask for a contribution that covers the cost of the vehicle and supports our free services for vulnerable people in the area. Call us with the details of the journey and we will tell you the terms straight away, with no obligation.

How to book

Contact us a little in advance with the date, time, pick-up, destination and whether a stretcher or a companion is needed.

Frequently asked questions

Do you provide ambulance transport at night or on public holidays?

We organise transport according to our volunteers’ availability: call us to agree a time, including early-morning services or on public holidays. For emergencies, always and only call 112.

Can a family member travel with me in the ambulance?

Yes, as a rule a companion can come along: let us know when you book so we can keep a seat free.

Do you provide ambulance transport outside Lazio?

Yes. We carry out long-distance transfers throughout Italy: journeys home, transfers to specialist centres, planned admissions in other regions.

Do I need an ambulance or is a car enough?

If the person can sit up and does not need medical assistance during the journey, a car or a vehicle with a wheelchair lift is enough. If a stretcher, oxygen or a rescuer’s presence is needed, an ambulance is required. If in doubt, describe the situation to us on the phone: we will advise you.
