Transport for hospital discharges

‹ English home

Discharge day often comes suddenly: “you can go home tomorrow”. If the person cannot sit up, is on a stretcher, needs oxygen or simply cannot manage to get into a car, organised transport is needed. The Misericordia di Ariccia has been organising it for over thirty years, from hospitals in the Castelli Romani, Rome and throughout Italy to the person’s home or destination facility.

What we do

  • Returning home after a hospital stay, by ambulance (stretcher) or by car
  • Planned admissions: from home to hospital on the scheduled day
  • Transfers between hospital, nursing home, care home (RSA) and rehabilitation centres
  • Accompaniment right to your front door, with help on stairs and with the wheelchair

On board the ambulance there are trained rescuers and, when needed, a nurse or doctor.

How to arrange the transport

  1. As soon as the ward tells you the date, call us on +39 348 4068657 (WhatsApp too).
  2. Tell us the hospital and ward, the destination address, whether a stretcher is needed or a car is enough, and the approximate discharge time.
  3. We coordinate with you and with the ward on the time of departure.

The more notice we have, the easier it is to guarantee the right vehicle: even a call the day before helps.

Frequently asked questions

Do you also collect patients from hospitals in Rome?

Yes. We bring people home from hospitals in Rome to the Castelli Romani and carry out transfers throughout Italy.

Is an ambulance always necessary?

No. If the person can sit up and does not need assistance during the journey, a car or a vehicle with a wheelchair lift is enough, and more comfortable and economical. If a stretcher or oxygen is needed, an ambulance. Describe the situation to us: we will advise you.

Do you help with stairs?

Yes. Our volunteers accompany the person all the way home, including up and down stairs, with suitable equipment.

How much does it cost?

We are a volunteer organisation: we ask for a contribution towards the cost of the vehicle, which supports our free services for vulnerable people in the area. Call us with the details and we will tell you the terms straight away.
