Dialysis transport

‹ English home

Dialysis takes up three days a week, for months or years. For people who do not drive, have no family members available or have difficulty getting around, getting to the centre and back home becomes the biggest problem. The Misericordia di Ariccia organises planned, recurring transport for dialysis patients in the Castelli Romani, with the same crew who get to know you.

How it works

  1. Call us and tell us your dialysis days and times, the centre and your home address.
  2. Together we choose the right vehicle: a car, a vehicle with a wheelchair lift or an ambulance if a stretcher or assistance during the journey is needed.
  3. We set a schedule: our volunteers come to collect you, wait or come back at the end of the session and take you home again.

The service also covers other recurring treatment: courses of chemotherapy, radiotherapy, rehabilitation, regular check-ups.

Where

We serve Ariccia, Albano Laziale, Genzano di Roma, Marino, Castel Gandolfo, Velletri, Lanuvio, Nemi, Rocca di Papa, Lariano and nearby towns, to dialysis centres in the Castelli Romani and Rome.

Volunteers, not taxi drivers

On board are trained volunteers of the Misericordia: they know how to help you get in and out, handle the wheelchair and, if needed, assist you during the journey. Some transport can be arranged through the town council’s social services or the local health authority (ASL): ask us how.

Frequently asked questions

How much does dialysis transport cost?

We are a volunteer organisation: we ask for a contribution that covers the cost of the vehicle. For recurring transport we agree a sustainable arrangement together. Call us: we will tell you the terms straight away.

Can you always come on the same days and at the same times?

Yes, that is the whole point of the service: we organise a fixed schedule with our volunteers. If the time of a session changes one day, just let us know.

I use a wheelchair: how do I get on board?

With the vehicle with a wheelchair lift you board while staying in your own wheelchair, with no tiring transfers. Our volunteers help you every step of the way.
